You are all set. You passed your background check. Your car passed the inspection. Your mobile device is linked. You are ready to drive for a Transportation Network Company (TNC). Or are you? Pump those brakes.
Does your insurance carrier know? No? Why does it matter, you may ask?
Your personal insurance auto policy covers you because you are currently using your personal vehicle for non-business use. Once you go online, your vehicle is no longer deemed for non-business use but for business use. This means you are violating the agreement you have with your insurance carrier.
What happens when they find out? They will most likely cancel your policy. What happens if you get in an accident? Often times they won’t cover you, and they will most likely still cancel your policy. Yes, the TNC does offer insurance to its drivers, but this coverage is at the state minimum liability limits without comp or collision.
The Rideshare Endorsement is the perfect solution. With the rideshare endorsement, you will have full comprehensive and collision coverage regardless if you are using your vehicle for personal or business use.
Now, a word of caution before you start calling your current insurance carrier. Often times if you call your current insurance carrier, and they learn that you are ridesharing, they may cancel your policy within 30 days. Not all insurance carriers offer this rideshare endorsement nor are they ok with you driving for a TNC.
